We started breeding cattle in 2001. We initially bought some Highland cows from Achnacloich estate, and some Aberdeen Angus cross heifers, which were all put to a pedigree beef shorthorn bull - Robin of Quoiggs, from Blackford Farms, Perthshire.
A good range of shorthorn cross calves were produced, and many are now cows in the our herd.
In 2005 we got another shorthorn bull, again from Blackford Farms - Quoiggs Wise Martinez.
Marty has produced some excellent calves for us, and the majority of our cow herd is made up of cows/heifers bred by him.
In 2012, we decided to purchase a Limousin bull to produce a more marketable calf. We purchased Lodge Fizz from Lodge Limousins, Bolfornought farm, Stirling.
Fizz's first calves were born in spring 2013, and we have been really pleased with them. Easy calving, good growth, easily handled, and sold well too!
We had another great crop of calves off Fizz in 2014 also.
